Biography

Laura LacamaraCuban-born artist, Laura Lacámara, has long been active in the Los Angeles Latino art scene. After she was awarded her Bachelor of Fine Arts at California State University, Long Beach, she studied printmaking and painting at Self Help Graphics in East Los Angeles and began exhibiting and selling her work.

Laura’s illustration career began with creating designs for imprinted apparel and textiles. Today she illustrates book covers, editorials, textbooks, and posters. Her images are licensed and published by Joan Cawley Gallery, Ltd.

Inspired by her mother who was an opera singer in Cuba, Laura has recently written her first children’s book. Floating on Mama’s Song will be published by HarperCollins in 2009.

Laura is a member of the Society of Children’s Book Writers and Illustrators and the Graphic Artists Guild. She lives in Venice, California with her husband, Hal, their daughter, Annalisa, and their dog, Lucy.
